Yoichi Sugimoto is the Sub Program Director of SIP-adus (automated driving for universal services) , which is one of the 11 programs of SIP (Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program) led by the Japanese Government and is conducting R&D activities to promote Automated Driving toward future deployment.
Yoichi Sugimoto started working at Honda R&D Co., Ltd in 1986. Involved in research and development of brake control technologies, he put the technologies including Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS) into practical use. In 2012, he was transferred to Honda R&D Americas, where he engaged in the preceding studies of the ITS field. Since he returned to his post in October 2015 as Senior Chief Engineer, he is in charge of automated driving technology in Honda.
