Dr. Hermann Winner is involved in driving automation and ADAS since 1987, beginning with by-wire-systems within the PROMETHEUS project for Bosch. After some years of pre-development of ADAS and Brake-by-Wire he succeeded 1995 as project leader of the series development for the first ACC of Bosch. Since 2002 he is professor for Automotive Engineering at Technische Universität Darmstadt (Germany), continuing the research on ADAS and AD. He is member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Ministry of Transportation and digital Infrastructure (BMVI) and was Core Member of ‘Villa Ladenburg Kolleg’ for the Project “Autonomous Driving” of the Daimler and Benz Foundation. In 2012 he was awarded with the IEEE ITS Award for Institutional Leadership in Research and System Engineering for Advanced Driver Assistance and Safety. The Handbook of Driver Assistance Systems was edited by him and is available in three German and one English Versions.
