The Automated Vehicles Symposium (AVS) brings together more than 1,500 professionals — leaders, academia, engineers, policymakers, researchers and solution providers to learn, share and connect on the evolving AV industry. Engage with speakers and fellow attendees to address technical challenges, build upon new innovations, and get insights on regulations reform, industry roadblocks and the next steps for deployment.
Due to ongoing concerns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and for the health and safety of the automated vehicles community, we have made the decision to host the Automated Vehicles Symposium virtually instead of in-person in San Diego.
Recognizing the value of this symposium to the Automated Vehicle community, we are confirming a virtual event that will address the important content already planned for this year’s program.
This event will take place during the original dates of July 27 – 30, 2020.
The virtual Automated Vehicles Symposium features all programming – keynotes, plenaries, breakout sessions, posters and networking – all within a fully interactive virtual platform. With the exception of a physical environment, all the aspects of the Automated Vehicles Symposium are available for attendees. The Symposium team has taken the on-site experience and reimagined it in a digital world with four primary focuses – thought-leadership, collaboration, networking and the virtual exhibit hall where you can see live demos of products and interact with vendors.
The virtual program includes all content originally planned for the in-person event, as well as networking breaks throughout the agenda for structured and organic engagement. You will have the opportunity to schedule 1-1 meetings with exhibitors and other symposium attendees.
While a webinar-style presentation may be part of a virtual event, a virtual event provides attendees with a variety of content options and opportunities for direct interaction with other participants.
A webinar is a topic-specific seminar or other presentation, usually between 30-90 minutes, that takes place on the Internet, allowing participants in different locations to see and hear the presenter(s), ask questions, and sometimes answer polls.
A virtual event features an agenda of topic-specific sessions that take place either sequentially or concurrently over the course of a day or days. A virtual event also includes collaborative spaces, poster halls, virtual product exhibits, and one-to-one chatrooms and video conferencing for scheduled and organic networking with other attendees. Participants in different locations can see and be seen, hear and be heard, and engage directly with other attendees, speakers, and exhibitors based on their interests. All sessions are professionally produced to optimize content for attendees and individual sessions throughout the agenda may be held in the style of a webinar, an interactive videoconference, or small group discussions.
The virtual Automated Vehicles Symposium will take placing during the same planned dates, July 27 – 30, 2020.
The schedule for the Symposium is set to Pacific Daylight Time, but international time zone considerations will be made where appropriate.
Breakout sessions are scheduled to begin a 5:00 am PDT, with the plenary content beginning at 8:00am PDT.
In order to access the virtual event platform, the minimum recommended bandwidth is 1.5mbps. A camera and microphone connected to your computer are recommended in order to have one-to-one virtual meetings. Speakers or headphones are required to hear the content being presented. To optimize the platform’s functionality, it is recommended that either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browsers be used.
The virtual platform utilizes Vimeo as the video player. For government personnel using a government computer, please note this may not work on all VPNs. In this case, please disconnect VPN and try again.

There is no deadline to register. We recommend registering in advance in order to familiarize yourself with the different opportunities that are available throughout the symposium. Please note: if you register on the day of the symposium, there will be a lag time between finalizing your registration and receiving your access link and/or code.

Once you register for the Automated Vehicles Symposium, you will receive a confirmation. Approximately one week before the start of the Symposium, you will receive details on how to prepare for the virtual event.
You will be able to access the event via your internet browser. You will need a minimum bandwidth of 1.5 mbps (recommended). A camera and microphone connected to your computer are recommended in order to have one-to-one virtual meetings. Speakers or headphones are required to hear the content being presented.
You will be able to watch presentations (both live and on-demand), ask questions of speakers, actively participate in breakout sessions and poster sessions, visit the virtual exhibits hall and schedule 1-on-1 meetings with exhibitors and speakers! In short, you will have a full experience from the convenience of your home or office.
